We’re kicking off this new year extremely keen to enjoy and experience the Riviera Maya with you. And to make sure you leave no stone unturned when you come to Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Resort & Spa, we’ve prepared our top eight must-do activities for 2018. Ready for a year packed with adventures and hidden secrets in Riviera Maya?
LET’S START THE YEAR OFF DIVING: UNDERWATER CULTURE
A great adventure is a dive to visit the Underwater Museum of Art in Cancun (MUSA). All you need is diving gear and the desire to discover the 470-plus statues that are submerged in this artificial reef created in the waters of Manchones, halfway between Cancun and Isla Mujeres. As well as all these figures, you’ll see schools of tropical fish, turtles, rays, etc. An interesting fact is that most of the sculptures are based on people from Puerto Morelos, including a pregnant woman, a small child and even a nun.
ENJOY THE SPECTACLE OF NATURE
On Akumal Beach (aka Place of the Turtles), there’s a truly unforgettable experience awaiting you: just a few metres off the coast, you’ll find dozens of green turtles that come to the coast to feed on the seaweed found on the seabed. Put on your goggles and swim, but beware! Make sure you follow the safety guidelines you’ll find on the beach, respecting the life of the turtles and thanking them for this natural spectacle.
2018 COULD BE A VERY RELAXING YEAR
Spa Grand Sirenis is a stunning haven in one of the most beautiful corners of the Atlantic Ocean, Riviera Maya, which rewards us with a unique natural landscape dotted with cenotes, lakes and ruins, all the legacy of one of the oldest and wisest civilisations… the Mayans. This huge spa has 2,800 m2 dedicated to you, your health and your well-being, and lies in the heart of Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Resort & Spa. It is unquestionably the ideal space to secure the balance between soul and spirit that will raise your stay to the pinnacle of satisfaction.
This spacious Spa boasts an array of treatments to delight your senses in this new year
TRIP TO ONE OF THE JEWELS IN THE CROWN: ISLA MUJERES
Isla Mujeres is a great place for a day trip, because its size (500 m wide and 7.5 km long) makes it highly accessible and easy to reach from the Riviera Maya coast, just a twenty-minute boat crossing away. Once there, you’ll discover that this place boasts dozens of kilometres of coastline with all kinds of services you’ll ever need.
FUN FOR ALL IN PLAYA DEL CARMEN: FESTIVALS!
Guests at Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya are in luck, as they’ll have the most important events of the year held on this Riviera Maya beach at their fingertips.
One of the most famous is the BPM Festival, an electronic music festival that takes place every January with more than 300 artists and events of all kinds. And the rhythm doesn’t die down in February, when it’s time for the Arena Festival, which is also electronic focussed. Pre-parties are held around the world before the cherry on the cake in Playa del Carmen. Throughout the year, there are countless musical events such as the Corona Sunset and the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival. Fun for all!
ADMIRE THE NATURE IN SIAN KA’AN
A little over an hour south of the hotel lies the largest nature reserve in Quintana Roo, with more than 500,000 protected hectares of pure nature. The area is home to rainforests, cenotes, beaches, dunes and mangroves and, as a result, a great variety of plants and animals that have made this diverse ecosystem their habitat. Birds play a special role here, with more than 300 native species, while the coastline is the ideal place for green turtles or leatherbacks to nest.
The sheer size of the reserve means there are several ways of exploring it. A very interesting option on foot is to visit the Mayan ruins of Muyil, in the heart of the reserve, where a signposted trail will then take you to the huge lagoon of Chunyaxché. Another alternative is to take a boat trip out to the wetlands and learn more about the curious mangroves found here. And always a great idea is to unwind on the beach and enjoy a snack or a drink from the seafront bars.
NATURE WITHOUT SETTING FOOT OUT OF GRAND SIRENIS RIVIERA MAYA AT ITS GARDEN CENTRE
If one day during your stay you don’t feel like leaving the resort, then no worries, as you can also enjoy the natural Caribbean wealth right here. Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya boasts a spectacular plant house to conserve the native species of this area which, in many cases, are in danger of extinction. The Garden Centre is divided into five zones: dune-beach, coastal scrub, wetland, jungle and ornamental (plants that aren’t typical but are grown for their beauty). In many cases, the plants are used to repopulate other parts where the vegetation is in danger of disappearing.
So as you can see, very close to the hotel you have an array of possibilities to explore the nature of Caribbean Mexico
